Fall is finally here Lash Dolls.
The leaves are to the point where they are changing to everybody’s favorite warm reds and oranges and are inches away from falling off the trees. Sadly, the leaves aren’t the only thing that will be falling this autumn; your lashes will likely join the leaves in the fall movement.
This season is referred to as “fall shed.” Seasonal hair loss is entirely normal and healthy and occurs during Fall and Spring. Just think, for those of you who have fur babies you likely find more clumps of fur during these times of the year. It is because your pet is preparing its coat for the upcoming season, and our lashes are doing just the same.
It is not entirely known why Fall specifically causes a change in the cycle and excessive lash fallout, but what we do know is that it is happening whether we want it to or not. Swedish researchers suggest that women grow more hair during the summer season to protect their scalps from hot sun and UV rays; come fall, this additional growth and thicker hair is no longer required and is therefore shed.
Your lashes, like all the hair on your body, go through a type of life cycle every 60 to 90 days, which continues even with lash extensions. On average, people lose 1 to 5 lashes every single day. When a natural lash reaches its full growth it sheds itself, but a new lash has already began to grow and it will quickly replace the fallen lash. The process happens so rapidly and is minuscule that most people won’t realize it is even happening. Because your extensions are attached to your natural lashes, they will shed with your natural lashes, likely still attached to one another. Aside from losing your extensions with the mature lash, shedding is an organic and healthy process and is by no means alarming.
So if you are losing more lashes than normal just know, in these seasonal shifts, it is nothing to worry about and is completely normal. The hair loss is often replaced fairly quickly by new growth. Our team recommends purchasing a serum and adding it into your daily routine in order to ensure your lashes are staying as strong as possible during shedding season. Just ask our stylists about it! If having less lashes bothers you too much we recommend adjusting your appointments to keep on top of it and come take lash naps more frequently until we escape shedding season.
